Responding to the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union’s speech in Vienna, the EURIS Task Force today welcome his call for the mutual recognition of standards between the UK and EU but reiterate the need for an industry-Government plan to develop the right policies and approaches to ensure no regulatory divergence for product regulations.

Dr Howard Porter, EURIS Chair, said, “EURIS members welcome the Secretary of State’s call for the mutual recognition of standards, but are concerned about how this will work in practice in the industrial product supply sector.  Any deviation of legislation and standards in our sector has the potential to cause considerable uncertainties and costs”.

Steve Brambley, EURIS Vice-Chair, added, “EURIS believes the best way forward is the creation of a post Brexit Industry and Government liaison body with the specific remit of confirming and recommending for adoption, or mutual recognition, aspects of future European legislation that specifically impact on the industrial product supply sector. This would facilitate access to European markets and the vast array of global markets that also look for compliance with European legislation and standards as the basis for trade”.
